Hello, Lawson Lions! My name is Shelley Newman. This is my 23rd year of teaching, with all of those years being at Lawson. I have taught first grade all of those years except the year I looped to 2nd grade with my students. I love teaching the primary grades and watching the kids grow and change so drastically in such a short amount of time. I am so lucky to spend my days at Lawson...it is a great place to be.
I have always lived in Jefferson City. I spent my grade school years at South Elementary School. I loved math, loved reading, and of course loved recess. I graduated from Jefferson City High School and attended Mizzou for a couple of years, majoring in accounting. This was not the fit for me! I changed directions completely and decided to pursue a degree in elementary education. My Elementary Education degree was finished at Lincoln University.
This is when my career teaching first graders at Lawson began.
I have since married and earned my Master's degree and Specialist's degree in Education Administration. We have a daughter, Elle, who is a fifth grader this year. We have a couple of other kids...fur kids. Jack is a 5 year old German Shepherd and Nana is a 3year old Golden Retriever and still very much a puppy! Our family loves to travel, play with our dogs, and swim together. I love all things Disney and am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. These are a few of my favorite things....Place: Walt Disney WorldIce Cream: Mint chip ice creamSports team: St. Louis CardinalsFood: Crab LegsCandy: Swedish FishColor: RedMovie: Any Disney movie!Exercise: WalkingPast time: Making crafts/sewing and Jigsaw PuzzlesTV Show: This is UsDrink: Diet Coke
