Renovation & Construction Updates

In 2017, Jefferson City Public Schools' voters approved the Prop J bond issue to build a second high school and completely overhaul the look and feel of the current high school. On November 12, 2018 the Board of Education approved a final guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the two projects, which are both currently on schedule and on budget.
More than 50 mid-Missouri contractors and sub-contractors have been engaged during the design and construction process with another 22 Missouri contractors outside of the central Missouri region providing support. Hundreds of workers from across the mid-Missouri area have already spent time on the projects, coming from more than 80 neighboring communities.

Renovations at Jefferson City High School began in June of 2018, with several classroom revamps already complete as part of the first phase. Renovations recently shifted to classrooms in Nichols Career Center as part of phase two. Work on some areas such as the new gymnasium, building connector and storm shelter will continue through the Fall of 2019, with final classroom completion slated for early 2020.

Construction at the newly-named Capital City High School is progressing at a notable pace for a new build. Rock blasting and tree clearing at the site began in the Spring of 2019, and the building is expected to be "under roof," with structural steel and concrete complete, before the end of 2018. Forty classrooms, common areas, kitchen facilities, administrative offices, and practice fields will be ready to receive 9th and 10th grade students in the Fall of 2019, with full project completion slated for late 2019.
