Mr. Shalz is beginning his 3rd year as principal at Belair Elementary School.  Before becoming a Bulldog, Mr. Shalz completed six years as the principal at Callaway Hills Elementary School in Jefferson City.  He began his teaching career in St. Joseph, Missouri where he taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th grades.  He worked as a math specialist, instructional coach and elementary curriculum coordinator while in the St. Joseph School District.

Mr. Shalz has been married to his wife, Christy, for 22 years.  They have two children, Allison and Carter.

Mr. Shalz is an avid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan.  His favorite kaiju is Godzilla.  When asked why he enjoys being a school principal, Mr. Shalz said, "It brings me great joy to serve students, staff, and families every day.  My goal is to wake up every morning and give 100% of myself to the folks I serve each day.  There isn't anything better than helping folks grow and learn as individuals.  Our life is the sum of our choices, so teaching folks to reflect, refine, and repeat is very important.  This cycle helps us grow into awesome individuals regardless of our age.  When kids succeed, it is joyous.  When adults succeed, it is joyous. When our school community succeed it is joyous!  Belair is an awesome community with awesome students, staff, and families.  There isn't another place I would rather be each day!  I love being a Bulldog!"
