About the Teacher
I was born on May 8th., 1971 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the first of three daughters to Jim and Kathy Penfold. We moved to Springfield, IL and then to Appleton, WI where my sisters Bridget and Becca were born. In May 1980 my family moved to Jefferson City where I attended West Elementary School, St. Joseph’s Junior High School, and Helias High School, graduating in 1989. I graduated from Truman State University with a BA in Art in 1994. After graduating, I returned to Jefferson City, working as a substitute teacher. I fell in love with teaching. I also met and fell in love with my husband, Tim. I returned to school at Central Missouri State University in 1995 and earned my teaching certification requirements in the spring of 1996.
Tim and I married on July 6, 1996. I took my first teaching position, teaching Elementary Art in Eldon, MO for five years. I resigned from teaching to be a stay-at-home mom in 2001. In November of 2012, I took over as I.C.'s interim art teacher. I began teaching art at Moreau Heights in August, 2013. I love teaching art, I love working with grade school children, and I love the community of Moreau Heights.
Tim and I have three children: Our daughter Hannah, 24, is a senior at Missouri State University. Nate, 21, is a Junior at Truman State University and Zach, 18, is a Senior at CCHS. Ten years ago we adopted our first dog, Tanner, a hound-lab mix who is full of energy. Outside of school, I love to garden, swim, take walks, draw, cross-stitch, watch movies and classic television shows, spend time with my family, and take daily visits to the dog park. I especially enjoy vacationing every summer in North Central Wisconsin at a fishing resort with my extended family. I am also a co-founder of, and art teacher at, Music, Art, and Dance Camp in Jefferson City.
I am so excited to be back for my eleventh year at Moreau Heights.
