Welcome! 

My name is Teresa Nichols and I became Thorpe Gordon STEM Academy's School Counselor in 2020. I started my teaching career at Lewis and Clark Middle School as the Recovery Room Teacher.  Previously, I worked as a Supervisor/Positive Behavior Supports trainer for a non-profit organization, serving adults with developmental disabilities. I earned my Masters of Education degree in School Counseling from Lincoln University and hold a k-12 certification.

• I have lived in the Jefferson City area for 16 years.
• I have been married to my best friend for 18 years.
• I have 4 amazing children.
• I love animals and grew up on a farm in Columbia.
• I love to be outside.

Counseling Philosophy

The comprehensive guidance and counseling program is an integral part of the Jefferson City Elementary Public School program.  It is developmental by design and includes sequential activities organized and implemented by professional school counselors with the active support of parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the community. The program addresses the needs of all students in the areas of academic/career, personal/social development, and personal safety. This is completed by monthly counseling lessons covering topics such as; study skills, career development, transitions, bullying, conflict resolution, self-esteem, friendships, tattling vs. reporting, and drug and alcohol awareness.

WOW! Our building looks AMAZING!  This year is going to be filled with alot of excitement! I can't wait to see all the cool learning opportunities that are going to take place at Thorpe Gordon STEM Academy! For the month of August, I will make classroom rounds for 1:1 minute meetings.  Class lessons will begin in the month of September with groups following with a start date of October 2nd.
