Miss Rebekah Backes
Hello, and welcome! I grew up in this community, and I attended both grade school and high school in Jefferson City. I have been working with individuals with disabilities since 2013, when I began working as a Cabin Leader at an outdoor adventure summer camp for individuals of all ages with disabilities. After high school I attended Drake University in Des Moines, where I earned a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Anthropology & Sociology. While studying abroad at Charles University in Prague, I had the opportunity to work with Czech high school students as a teaching assistant and aide in a life skills classroom, and in fourth and fifth grade classrooms as a native English speaker. After graduating University in 2017, I wanted to get back to the classroom and became a paraprofessional at Lawson. My passion for learning and love of working with individuals with disabilities has led me to pursue a teaching certification and to work toward a Master's degree in Special Education. The 2020-2021 school year will be my second year as a Lawson Elementary teacher, and I could not be more excited! I look forward to working together to face challenges head-on and to facilitate a positive, accessible learning environment.
