• LCMS Grading Policy 2020-2021

     

    LCMS 2020-20121 Orchestra Grading Policy

     

    1. Weekly playing coursework grade: 20 points maximum each day (30% of grade). 

    Student will have to demonstrate movement toward daily in class playing goals. 

    • Students earn points by actively working on learning goals in class with instrument and all supplies. 
    • Points deducted for absence with lack of completing make up work (20 points), forgetting instrument (15 points), missing music or equipment (5 points each), lack of playing instrument in class activities (up to 20 points)
    • If a student is absent, playing grade points may be made-up by practicing an additional 40 minutes for each day absent. Submit a video of you practicing to our google classroom. 

     

    1. Weekly Practice Checks take place on Thursdays and are a playing assessment (worth 10 points and 70% of the grade): One and 1/2 hours of practice (90 minutes) is recommended every week. Some formal practice checks will be given in advance for students to prepare. Some informal practice checks will be given at random to assess where students are at in learning the material. These could be written or playing assessments. Students are always allowed to retake assessments up to a week prior to final grade submission.

     

    Playing/Written assessments will be given throughout the 9-weeks to assess the targets of the orchestra curriculum which include: instrumental performance skills, expression and technical skills, group playing, rhythmic notation, melodic notation, repertoire, symbols for rhythm, pitch and expressive elements, sight reading, developing and applying instrument skills to perform and communicate through music, tone quality, rhythm and bowing, finger patterns and scales, music literacy and vocabulary, music theory and history, ear training and musicianship, music genres and styles, stylistic practices and ear training. Students will play individually or as a small group for a numerical grade.

     

    1. Final Exam (10%) Students will demonstrate course knowledge on an end of term exam.
