Welcome to band class! We are so excited to have you in our music program. In the middle school band, we focus on building musical skills through instrumental playing. Students will work together to create music, playing on several different instruments (Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, and a whole family of percussion instruments).
In 6th grade, we really focus on the core principles of playing the instruments. We will learn how to produce good sound, recognize and play notes and simple rhythms, and learn some songs we can show off with. This level of band will have classes of Brass, Woodwinds, and Percussion to help them focus on proper playing styles.
In 7th grade band, we will build on the basics and start to explore some of the finer details of tone, rhythm, dynamics, intonation, and more. You will see and hear a dramatic difference in quality from how they are playing from 6th grade to 7th grade. 7th Grade classes meet together to allow students to hear and play in a richer sound environment.
Finally in 8th grade band, students will be expanding their knowledge of music to a deeper level. We will be playing more complex music that requires students to listen across the band. The music in this class is much more dynamic and detailed. 8th grade class will also learn about the exciting opportunities that high school band has in store.
