Sixth Grade Writing, Team Phoenix

  • Sixth Grade Writing Units (all dates are tentative):

    • Getting Started (Aug. 19th - Oct. 1st)
    • Unit 1 - Informational Texts (Oct. 2nd - Nov. 22nd)
    • Unit 2 - Narrative Texts (Dec. 2nd - Jan. 31st)
    • Unit 3 - Argumentative/Persuasive (Feb. 3rd - Apr. 4th)
    • Unit 4 - Poetry (Apr. 7th - May 15th)

    Quick Writes:

    • Each writing class will begin with a Quick Write. This is a seven-minute period in which students will write quietly in a composition notebook. Students are provided at least one optional prompt, but they are free to write something else. Students are expected to write quietly the entire time. Quick Writes are graded, but not for content. I do expect at least half a page, which will earn the maximum of five points. Five points per day add up quickly and can have a major impact on a student's grade. Please encourage your students to write during this time in class.

    Late Work Policy:

    • Students may receive partial credit for an assignment turned in up to five school days past the original due date. Any assignment not turned in by that time will receive an automatic zero.

    Extra Credit Policy:

    • There are no opportunities for extra credit.

    Retake Policy:

    • Any opportunity to retake an assignment, quiz, test, or paper will be granted at the sole discretion of the teacher.
