Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Michele Harkins
Hello! I am super excited about being a teacher at Capital City High School. I became a teacher in an alternative route. Originally, I went to school to be a pharmacist but Organic Chemistry stopped me from pursuing that goal. So, I went back to my first love: teaching. I finished my BA in History in May 2012 then received my MA in History in August 2015. My first teaching job was at Tipton Correctional Center teaching HSE/GED subjects. While working there, I earned my Social Studies teaching certificate through ABCTE. For the past two years, I taught Social studies classes at Tipton R-VI School District. I have also been a dual-credit adjunct teacher through Missouri State University. My education is a bit more varied than most but it was worth it.
I love history and hope that I can get others to love it as much as I do. My goal for this year is to get the students to see beyond the names and dates or "boring stuff" (as one student once said to me) to see the trends and movements that have shaped our world as it is today. There is so much more to history than the "boring stuff." Hopefully, you (my students) will be able to see and comprehend that by the end of the year. If not, you will at least get to see me looking silly while I try. Aside from anything history, my most favorite thing to do is have dance parties with my 4 kids. I love music and they love to dance. It's a win-win. I also like to read, work on crossword puzzles, and watch Hallmark movies.
The best time and way to reach me is before/after school or my plan time via email.
