Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Alex VanLeuven
Hello!
I am enthused and excited to have you all in class this year!
I graduated from the University of Missouri last school year in 2023, MIZ-ZOU! I have a degree in Secondary Social Studies with a certification to teach in both Social Studies as well as Family and Comsumer Sciences courses.
In my downtime I enjoy watching and playing sports, mainly football and basketball. I enjoy video games, cooking, spending time with my family and friends, and listening to music.
I hope to make your high school experience as fun and productive as possible. We will have a lot of opportunities to make every day at school a great one!
Where are you from?
I am from St.Charles Missouri, about an hour and 45 minutes away from JC. I stayed there till I graduated high school and then when I was in my sophomore year of college I moved to Columbia full-time to attend the University of Missouri. The high school I attended is called St.Charles High and we had about 600 total students, with my graduating class coming in at a grand total of 117 students. The change from the 600 to the well over a thousand students at CCHS is going to be fun as well as nerve-wrecking, but I am looking forward to it and becoming a part of the CCHS family.
Why teaching?
My reason for wanting to teach is to pass on the skills that we learn in the classroom to you guys. I hope that those skills will translate to your everyday life in the kitchen, when you have a family of your own, and in times of an interior designing crisis! My FACS teacher at SCHS has had a big impact on me and has helped me a lot throughout my life so she inspried me to want to be that person for other people (You guys!)
What am I looking forward to the most?
There are quite a few things that I am looking forward to as a first year teacher, to narrow it down to one thing is a difficult task but if I had to choose it would be getting in the kitchen or mock houses and seeing you guys apply things that you have learned from me. It is something that I have not experienced a lot due to me being a 1st year teacher but without a doubt something that will be an awesome sight to see when it happens.
What is my favorite thing to cook?
My downright most favorite thing to make is the family sauce. It is a simple red sauce recipe that has made its way through my family and it is absolutely delicious! The key is that when you are cooking the meat, instead of cooking it separate you cook it in the sauce. I love making meatball subs with this recipe as well as some spaghetti.
What is life like outside of teaching?
Life outside of teaching consists of riding dirtbikes with my dad, cooking meals for myself and my girlfriend (some of you know her as Ms.Blayre the dance coach), gaming with my friends, participating in recreational sports, and hanging out around the house relaxing.
