    Course Description:

    English III is a year-long course that builds on the foundation of English II, focusing on American Literature and composition. Students will engage with notable works, including Arthur Miller’s "The Crucible" and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s "The Great Gatsby," alongside various short stories, poems, and nonfiction texts. Through diverse writing assignments, including informative and persuasive research essays, students will refine their writing skills. The course emphasizes oral communication through informal presentations and a formal partnered presentation. By delving into the American literary heritage and enhancing communication and writing prowess, students will be well-prepared for the challenges of English IV. Prerequisite: English II.

    Course Description:


    College Prep Literature will provide students with the skills needed to be successful in pursuing future Advanced Placement classes and elevating their writing, reading, and thinking skills. This course emphasizes critical reading, analytical writing, and explorative discussions on major writers, writing movements, and themes of American literature. In particular, we will examine the relationship between literature and the historical context in which they are written.

    Q: What do I need to bring to class?

    A: A pencil, a charged chromebook, and a willingness to learn.

     

    Q: Can I turn in work late/retake tests?

    A: The English department's latework policy is listed in the syllabus for the class, but in short late work will receive a 10% penalty and will only be accepted up until the day of the final test/project for each unit. Tests can only be retaken if all formative assignments (homework/classwork) are turned in and must be taken within 10 days of the original test date. Retakes are at the teacher's discretion.
