Elementary Education 1-8 Lifetime Mild/Mod Cross Categorical K-12 University of Missouri Columbia

Mrs. Susie Nichols

Welcome to my classroom. I am ready for an exciting year! I have been a Special Education Teacher for 16 years and a Regular Education Teacher for 2 years. I was also a paraprofessional for 2 years. I worked at California Elementary, California High School, and Kirchner State School before coming to Capital City High School. My first child, Callie, had cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and cortical visual impairment. She died in 2003 at the age of 13 and this became my drive to continue my education and add a Special Education degree.  I have 2 boys, Zachary and Seth, who both live out of state. Zach lives in Colorado and is a Special Education Teacher and football coach. Seth lives in the state of California and is finishing a Masters in Behavior Interventionist. Callie definitely had a huge impact on our families' choices. My husband, Rick, works for Menu Maker Foods and is also a licensed referee.

Some of my hobbies and interests include swimming, cycling, motorcycling, and reading. I also love the outdoors and animals. I have 3 rescue animals. I have 2 dogs, JD and Rufus, and one cat named Opal.

I am excited about starting a new position at Capital City High School this year. I feel very passionate about my kiddos because they will encourage me to be the best person I can be. Helping children and families is the most rewarding job I can think of! I feel I have the background experience to best help children and families because I have been in their situation. My youngest Seth also had some issues with speech, ADHD, and sensory issues as a child. Both Callie and Seth attended the Special Learning Center.

  • I am available before school from 7:50-8:30. I am also available after school until 4:00. My plan time is from 1:53-2:44.
