In the Classroom – Units Covered
The following topics will be covered during the classroom portion of Driver Education:
MISSOURI DRIVER GUIDE ESSENTIALS
- This unit will cover chapters 3-9 of the MO Driver Guide. These chapters most directly reflect the information covered on the instruction permit test given by the Missouri D.O.R.
LAWS OF NATURE
- This unit will focus on the science of driving a vehicle including gravity, traction, and force of impact.
ADVERSE DRIVING CONDITIONS
- This unit will examine the external factors that influence driving including weather and distractions.
RULES OF THE ROAD
- This unit will give the student the opportunity to present information regarding several situations that are encountered behind the wheel on a daily basis. This includes intersections, RR crossings, and interacting with pedestrians and other vehicles.
ALCOHOL AND DRIVING
- This unit will take an in-depth look at the impact alcohol has on the body and demonstrate the inherent dangers of a vehicle after consuming alcohol or other drugs.
VEHICLE INSURANCE
- This unit will give the student the basic knowledge regarding insuring a vehicle.
BUYING A VEHICLE
- This unit will give the student the basic steps that it takes to purchase a vehicle.
GETTING AND KEEPING A LICENSE
- This unit will cover the MO Graduated License program and the MO point system.
----DRIVING A VEHICLE----
Street Driving
- Students will progress based on their performance and safety through a progression beginning in a subdivision setting and working up to driving on the highway.
- Students will perform a series of exercises designed to improve steering and control of a vehicle in close-quartered situations. Students will also be responsible for navigating the intersections, turns, and right-of-way rules as part of the Range Driving Responsibilities.
