The Computer Technology program at Nichols Career Center is designed for students who enjoy working with computer technology and plan to make working with computers a career even students aren’t sure what area of computer technology they want to pursue. This program provides students the opportunity to acquire real world, hands-on skills with computers so that students have a better idea what area of computer technology they wish to pursue as a career. In this 2-year course students learn to design, build, troubleshoot, and repair computers, build websites, create home and small business networks, and program applications. Nearly all students who complete this 2-year program go on to further their education at a technical school, university, or branch of the military in the field of computer technology, computer science, computer information systems, computer engineering, or a related field. 2016-17 will focus on hardware technology and 2017-18 will focus on software technology. Dual credit is available through either State Technical College or State Fair Community College.
Prerequisite: Computer Applications I or related course and a "B" or better in Algebra I or a subsequent course such as Geometry. Articulation agreement.
