Health Sciences is a one-year course of study that introduces students to a variety of occupations within the healthcare field while focusing upon the required skills to become a Certified Patient Care Technician. The fall semester introduces vocabulary related to health care, anatomy and physiology, patient care skills, and basic disease information. Additionally, students learn skill sets in phlebotomy, CPR and electrocardiograms (EKGs). In order to advance these skills, students who meet various clinical requirements are required to transport themselves daily to clinical settings at various hospitals and outpatient care centers during the spring semester. Patient centered care and safety are the foundation of the Nichols Career Center Health Sciences program.
