According to Forbes magazine, billionaire Warren Buffet claims strong communication skills increase an individual’s value in the workforce by fifty percent. Likewise, Richard Branson, another billionaire from the airline industry, says, “communication is the most important skill any leader can possess” (qtd. in Gallo). Our advisors from local business and industry also repeatedly tell us they need to see stronger communication skills in job applicants.
As a result, Nichols Career Center has developed a Technical English program for our CTE students. In this program, we will capitalize on both our shared interest in our specific program areas and practical experience in our shops and labs. Students will be encouraged to choose topics related to their specific programs when conducting research and presenting information.
Classroom Vision:
In the NCC Technical English classroom, we will work together to create a positive, encouraging environment where all learners set high expectations for themselves. We will strive to be career-ready communicators by researching, writing, and speaking about topics relevant to our education and career goals. We will identify our own strengths and weaknesses and build on them so we are better prepared to make meaningful contributions in our chosen trades and professions.
