We DO NOT teach our students to become farmers. Agriculture classes focus on career development within the agricultural industry and our classes are not just for rural/farm kids. Our students are interested in going into a number of fields post graduation including:
Veterinary Science
Agricultural Business
Animal Science
Welding
Food Science
Conservation and Natural Resources
We are considered the Nichols Career Center (NCC) Agriculture Department. Our main classroom and lab are located at NCC, but we offer classes at Capital City High School, Nichols Career Center, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, and Lewis and Clark Middle School.
Agriculture is considered a Practical Art. All students are required to have 1 Practical Art credit to graduate.
3 Agriculture Credits are Equivalent to 1 Science Credit
Agricultural Education uses a three-circle model of instruction. These are classroom and laboratory instruction, leadership development, and experiential learning. The successful integration of each of these three components results in a strong program that produces well-rounded individuals who are prepared to be leaders in agriculture, business, and industry.
A student taking an agriculture class will be exposed to many different hands-on activities in a variety of career fields. Activities may include:
Woodworking and Metal Working Projects
Hatching Chicks
Creating Floral Arrangements
Dissecting the Reproductive Tract of a Pig
In order for a student to join the FFA Organization, they must be enrolled in an agriculture class.
