• Project Lead The Way (PLTW) prepares students to be the most innovative and productive leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and to make meaningful, pioneering contributions to our world. The middle school Gateway to Technology program is  hands-on project-based program is divided into four independent units.

IN 6th GRADE: Students explore the Science and Technology unit, where they learn about the different careers in engineering, and explore the possibilities in the field of engineering. Students also work in the Design and Modeling unit, where they get introduced to the design process, and specifically learn how to use the standard measurement system. Students will also work from the Automation and Robotics unit learning about mechanisms and machines, and robotics.

IN 7th GRADE: Students will work from the Magic of Electrons unit learning about electricity, where it comes from, renewable and nonrenewable resouces, conductivity, Ohm's law, series and parallel circuits. Students work on hands-on activities and labs along the way, learning about the magic world of electricity.

IN 8th GRADE: Students stay in the Design and Modeling unit where they learn about the design process. They learn how to design a product from the beginning to end. They will do CAD drawings using Autodesk Inventor, and learn different sketching techniques. They will also design and produce their own passive amplifier.
This year, we are also adding the unit of Green Architecture to 8th grade. They are going to learn about blueprints, designing a room using Autodesk Revit, and some basic construction techniques.
