About Band
TJ has 3 bands, one for each grade level. The 6th and 7th-grade bands attend class with similarly-voiced instruments for more personal instruction as students learn the instruments they play. Members of the 8th-grade band all rehearse together. In addition to me, we have two other band directors that assist in developing musicianship in young learners in every class.
We mainly work on our performance as an ensemble both from sheet music and from music lesson books. When I am not teaching a piece of music, the class learns about music theory, listens to important and influential pieces of music, and relates music and its emotional and societal impacts to their daily lives.
Middle School Jazz Band (7th grade and up) and Color Guard will meet one day each week after school, starting in November and January, respectively, concluding after Spring Break.
** Most assignments will be completed through our Google Classroom this year. We will assess topics such as rhythm and note identification, listening and evaluating, and performance.
