• Seal of Excellence in Reading

     

    • Seniors read and review a minimum of four Gateway Award nominees for the current school year.

    • Seniors read and review a minimum of two Missouri Dogwood Nominees or books from the college-bound reading lists provided by the JCHS Library or approved by the librarians.

    • Seniors read and review a minimum of four books (fiction or nonfiction) of their choice. Students submit titles prior to reading for approval.

    • Seniors participate in at least two book clubs or reading challenges through the JCHS Library. These two books count towards the required reading.

    • Seniors participate in a community service project through either the JCHS Library, Epsilon Beta, or the public library that furthers literacy or service to others, i.e. Reading Buddies Program through MRRL, organizing a charitable drive such as the JCHS Library Giving Tree, a self-directed service project approved by the JCHS Library OR received the Jay Reader’s Award during the previous school year.

    *Required novels read for JCHS classes do NOT apply toward this award.
