• Q  When should a student take the ACT?
    A.  ACT recommends students begin taking the ACT during their junior year or upon
completion of Algebra II.  This recommendation is based on giving the student ample
opportunity to be exposed to content which is covered on the test.  There are a variety
of practice experiences listed onthe Test Information link.
Q  How can I get in touch with my student's teachers?

    A.  One of the most popular ways to contact a teacher these days, given technology, is to
email the teacher.   Each teacher has access to email. All district email works the same
          way--firstname.lastname@jcschools.us

Q  What courses does my student need to take to go to a four-year, public college in Missouri?

A  The Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education has developed the minimum core
to help prepare students for college.  This core set of required courses includes four units
of English, three units of social studies, three units of math (Algebra I and higher), one unit
of visual arts and additional units of advanced electives which include the above mentioned
subjects and foreign language. The minimum core and additional information is outlined in
    our JCHS Academic Planning Guide.
Because some institutions have additional requirements including foreign language, we
recommend you check with the admissions department ofany school you are considering.

Q  What is the policy regarding schedule changes at JCHS?

Adopted during the 2002-03 school year, the policy reads:

"A student's schedule will be changed for the following reasons only:

    1. Computer error

    2. Prerequisite course not met

    3. Duplicate credit

    4. Educational Team recommendation that the student is misplaced

Requests for class changes will not be considered for the following reasons:

    1. a change of student interests

    2. a negative effect of course grade on GPA

    3. not needing the course to graduate

    All Semester
1 and Semester 2 schedule changes must be made before the semester begins. There will be a 2-week window in December to make changes in the Semester 2 schedules. All changes must be made prior to the beginning of the semester."

Q  How do I send an official transcript?
A  For graduates, official transcripts must be requested in writing.  The transcript request form is available on the district website in multiple places. Current students can request their transcript using this form.  Former students can request their transcript using this form.

Q  How many credits do I need to have to be on track to graduate on time?
A 2023 JCHS Senior currently requires 25 credits to graduate.  At present, a student must have 6 credits prior to school starting in August to be classified as a sophomore.  The credit amount is 12 for a junior and 18 for a senior.  We reclassify two times a year--in August prior to school starting and again in January once first semester credits are added to the total count.  If a student has earned enough credits to get themselves back on track to graduate on time (9 credits for sophomores, 15 credits for juniors, and 21.5 credits with a plan for seniors), they will be reclassified back to their original status.

Q What is the difference between a practical art credit and a fine art credit?

A  Practical arts credit comes from taking a course which teaches a skill that is practical to know how to do.  Those courses range from drivers education, cooking courses, business courses or those shop courses.  Personal finance is required and also completes .5 credit of practical arts so students need to only an additional .5 unit of credit to meet graduation requirements.  A fine art credit is credit earned from a fine arts course, or those courses which are usually more creative in nature.  They range from visual arts, vocal and instrumental music or theater classes.
