Marching Band
Marching Band at Jefferson City High School is open to all band students upon successful completion of eighth grade band. The percussion and color guard portions of the ensemble are established through an audition process during Spring semester.
The Marching Jay Band are a competitive marching ensemble in MSHSAA Class 6 and Bands of America Class 4 attending on average, five competitions per season throughout the Midwest Area. In addition to competition, the Marching Jay Band also perform at all Jefferson City home football games, the annual Jefferson City High School Homecoming Parade, Jefferson City and Holts Summit Christmas Parades and the Governors Inaugural Parade every 4 years.
The curricular goal of Marching Band at Jefferson City High School is to provide students a positively life-changing experience through teamwork, time-management and self-discipline all of which are combined in order to perform at the highest level.Concert Band
The Jefferson City High School Concert Band is a audition ensemble of the Jay Band Program. Membership is open to students grades nine through twelve through a comprehensive audition process in the spring semester or an audition process prior to marching band season.
Performances for the Concert Band include Winter Concerts, MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Festival, Band Spectacular, and our annual Spring Concert in the Capital Rotunda.Symphonic Band
The Jefferson City High School Symphonic Band is the flagship ensemble of the Jay Band Program. Membership is open to students grades nine through twelve through a comprehensive audition process in the spring semester.
Performances for the Symphonic Band include Winter Concerts, Capitol Caroling, MSHSAA State Large Ensemble Festival, Band Spectacular, and our annual Spring Concert in the Capital Rotunda.
The Symphonic Band has been selected to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference 6 times with its most recent performance in 2016.Jazz Band
The Jazz program at the high school level is by audition only. Music for the ensembles is chosen to keep in line with the MOAJE standards and national standards. Jazz Band will meet during zero hour throughout the school year.
Eligibility for this ensemble includes an audition and participation with the marching band during a student’s freshman year. Performances for the jazz band include SEMO, Columbia Rock Bridge, and various other festivals.Music Appreciation
