    Mystery, Suspense & Horror:
    This course is a reading and cultural study of these genres.  We study archetypes, motifs, and traditions within these genres by reading works old and new.  What can one tell by the monsters a culture chooses to place in its stories? What are the basic elements of a compelling mystery story? How do authors and artists create suspense and tension using the basic elements of fiction? These are some of the questions our study will address. This semester course provides a half English credit. 
     
     
     
    AP English Language, Rhetoric, and Composition:
    This course, driven by the standards and requirements of the National College Board, delivers an intensive study of language as it is used to persuade and move populations to action.  Students will study classical and popular works of persuasion of a variety of mediums (speeches, essays, memoirs, various fiction, etc.) in order to identify and analyze fundamental rhetorical elements and manipulations.  Students will practice rhetorical skills through a variety written practices.  Students have the option of paying to take the AP College Board test in order to earn college credit.  Major works of literature for the course include The Crucible, Ishmael, The Great Gatsby, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and 1984.
     
    There is no summer assignment for the 2022-2023 school year.
