• The worldwide COVID-19 public health emergency expired on May 11, 2023. Just as state and federal health agencies have transitioned their COVID-19 response to part of the normal disease process, JC Schools has adapted our COVID-19 response accordingly.

    CDC and WHO no longer track cases, close contacts or perform contract tracing even if symptomatic. JC Schools will have the same practice and mirror the current guidelines. The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of fever-reducing medication. Once people resume normal activities, they are encouraged to take additional prevention strategies for the next 5 days to curb disease spread.

    School nurses will continue to monitor for any potential COVID clusters as they do for all communicable diseases within the schools per state requirements.

    Consistent with our approach to COVID-19:

    • Students and staff should wash hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds, avoid touching your face, cough or sneeze into your elbow, and disinfect frequently touched objects;
    • JC Schools does not provide COVID-19 testing, however individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 are encouraged to call your doctor;
    • Students and staff who are sent home with a temperature 100.0 degrees or higher can return when fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Students and staff returning prior to 24 hours from being fever free could be sent home;
    • JC Schools does not mandate COVID vaccinations;
    • 504 and IEP teams will determine and implement appropriate mitigation measures and any additional accommodations/modifications needed for students with disabilities.
